We use a combination of sports movement screens, our own research, experience and knowledge and have devised specific assessments for different sports, from new runners to elite athletes. We look at joints, muscular imbalances, asymmetrical, un co-ordinated movement and biomechanics in a way which is specific and tailored to you and your sport. Each sport performance consultation will last 1.5 hours, providing time for a thorough assessment and analysis, manual intervention if appropriate followed by a plan of action involving exercise prescription or modification, stretching/myofascial release techniques, and/or aspects of strength and conditioning .

We believe that good movement is the strongest foundation for achieving your fitness goals. Improving the way you move will undoubtedly improve your athletic performance.

Rugby Performance

Rugby places a lot of different demands on the body and therefore improving performance can mean a host of different things such as increasing speed , side stepping , handing off , tackling , passing or a combination of these. At the moment we are working with a lot of rugby players to increase the amount and control of rotation available in the trunk as it can be lacking if the conditioning has not incorporated enough functional core work.

Football performance

With lots of change of direction and large demands on the lower limbs there are many factors that can be looked at to improve physical performance as well as a player’s ability to perform technical skills such as kicking and heading the ball. Screening for football could involve a detailed investigation into certain issues that you feel need improving or an investigation into general movements looking at where they could be improved.

Golf performance

Our experience in movement analysis in combination with screening protocols from The Golf Athlete makes Recovery & Beyond Physiotherapy a first port of call for physical screening to allow improvement in swing technique. We work with many Golf Professionals to optimise and improve their and our clients’ capabilities.

CrossFit performance

Crossfit is more popular than ever in South Wales but unfortunately it also has a relatively high injury rate due to the complexity and intensity of the workouts. A lack of control or mobility at a single or across a few segments of the body can put excessive stress on these tissues which can impair performance or lead directly to injury. Alternatively the body will compensate by sending this stress to other parts of the body and try to develop alternative strategies to deal with the loads placed upon it. A thorough investigation into the movements needed for these exercises will highlight muscle imbalances , which once highlighted we should be able to influence positively

Dance performance

There are many different forms of dance from contemporary to modern ballet. All types of dance usually involve repetitive movements and require extreme flexibility , strength and endurance which can also cause overuse injuries. An extremely high level of functioning is needed to perform successfully. We can help identify poorly performed movements at a fine level and incorporate strategies to correct these to improve overall performance as well as highlight potential overuse or make a plan to resolve acute injuries.

Skiing and Snowboarding

These sports have very different demands but have been put together as the classic winter sports. Both activities have notoriously high injury rates due to their fast speed and unpredictable nature. Also the majority of people ski for 1 week in 52! So are inherently unconditioned for these activities. Our in depth pre ski assessment will identify areas of weakness and vulnerability giving you time to work on your conditioning helping to avoid injury , reduce fatigue , and maximise your time on the slopes . We also run small group ski – fit classes run by two of our physios who also regularly ski and snowboard if you would like to facilitate the achievement of your goals identified in your pre – ski assessment under the guidance and encouragement of your physiotherapist .

Striking Sports

Conditioning and training is most important in the combat sports such as boxing , kick boxing and muay thai as many injuries are unavoidable due to the nature of the sports repetitive strikes to the body , there is a huge benefit to looking at improving and optimising movement to maximise your conditioning and allow your technical skills to respond to your training.

To book in for a sport performance consultation please let the receptionist know which sports you participate in , this allows us to book you in with the appropriate physiotherapist .
