As Physiotherapists we understand how frustrating the onset of back pain can be , we see many people each week experiencing back pain ranging from annoying aches and pains that just won’t go away to those that have quick onset of debilitating back pain preventing them from going about their day.
We also see people who have been referred on to us from GP’s or surgeons or have referred themselves , that are experiencing chronic problems that have not responded to previous treatment , our expertise coupled with our methodical, holistic approach to care provides effective results.
As experienced musculoskeletal Physiotherapists we are a good first port of call , we can assess you almost immediately as we keep appointments free each day for emergencies ie : where people have an acute complaint and are in much discomfort , this ensures that straight away you are able to know what the problem is, gain some relief from pain, and have a plan of treatment.
Low back pain may be a sharp localised pain exacerbated by certain movements such as , bending lifting , twisting or straightening the spine. These symptoms may occur immediately or at a later time as a more generalised ache. More generalised or diffuse pain can also come on after being in certain positions , such as sitting or standing for a period of time , and the back may be described as being weak. Pain may radiate into the legs but any further than the knees or any different symptoms may indicate a more specific nerve root entrapment or sciatica.
Low back pain is usually a combination of many factors in differing proportions. Many low back problems are described as mechanical in that they involve strains and sprains of the soft tissues and joints of the back and sacro-iliac joints. Disc and nerve root irritation and degeneration of the disc and facet joints are also common causes. Other causes we see and treat are spondylolysthesis.
Physiotherapy treatment is effective in treating back pain , here at the clinic we successfully treat many patients per week who are complaining of back pain . Immediate treatment is based on relieving pain and restoring function as soon as possible before addressing the underlying factors. Where possible the desired outcome is for you to become aware of the contributing factors to your back pain , a programme will be implemented with the physiotherapist which will look at the way you move , sit , stand or run , we don’t want people to have to come back for treatment time and time again, as physiotherapists biomechanical assessment with an emphasis on prevention is fundamental to our successful outcomes . We want you to be able to prevent reoccurance of your back pain whenever this is possible .
